The BWH Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) management and staff recently hosted an open house to unveil the newly renovated Tower 9C. The new, state-of-the-art pod features ten private, sonically isolated patient rooms with breakaway glass doors that provide maximum visibility for caregivers, while maintaining privacy for patients. In addition, each room contains the state-of-the-art Boom System, which allows caregivers to access patients from all angles. These booms house the critical care equipment that is necessary to care for the intensive care patient population.
The rooms are accompanied by six decentralized nursing stations with custom designed desk areas. In addition, a new medicine room with individual drawers has eliminated the need for medicine carts and an independent monitoring system allows caregivers to observe patients both inside and outside of their rooms. A new reception desk and conference room round out Tower 9C’s many renovations. MICU staff and employees will officially return to Tower 9C on Monday, December 22.
